I’ll fly away

In flight

Some glad morning when this life is o’er,
I’ll fly away;
To a home on God’s celestial shore,
I’ll fly away.

I’ll fly away, Oh Glory
I’ll fly away; (in the morning)
When I die, Hallelujah, by and by,
I’ll fly away (I’ll fly away).

When the shadows of this life have gone,
I’ll fly away;
Like a bird from prison bars has flown,
I’ll fly away

Just a few more weary days and then,
I’ll fly away;
To a land where joy shall never end,
I’ll fly away

I’ll fly away, Oh Glory
I’ll fly away; (in the morning)
When I die, Hallelujah, by and by,
I’ll fly away (I’ll fly away).

We said goodbye to two special men in the past couple of weeks.

They lived in different cities and I don’t think they ever met. One was a family member and the other a good friend.

Interestingly they both had the same surname, a Scots name meaning rock. They were both employed by the Canadian post office for nearly their entire working lives. They both succumbed to similar illnesses. They were both kind, gentle men who cared deeply about their families and were humble servants who quietly did what needed to be done, never looking for attention or reward.

The thing about people who have the spiritual gift of service (or “helps”), is that you never notice how they were always there, always willing to make everyone’s lives go more smoothly, until suddenly they are not there. The empty space left is enormous. That’s when you realize how much was accomplished because of them.

They never had the applause they so rightly deserved. But I think that is probably the way they wanted it.

Godspeed, Alec and Cam. We shall meet again.

  1. PLZ allow me to share something very close to my heart & know to be true to the very center of my soul, & losing my mom & sister a yr apart.

    President Joseph F. Smith, himself a man of deep family feeling, also taught on the feelings of the departed spirits and their nearness to us:
    Sometimes the Lord expands our vision from this point of view and this side of the veil, that we feel and seem to realize that we can look beyond the thin veil which separates us from that other sphere. If we can see, by the enlightening influence of the Spirit of God and through the words that have been spoken by the holy prophets of God, beyond the veil that separates us from the spirit world, surely those who have passed beyond, can see more clearly through the veil back here to us than it is possible for us to see them from our sphere of action. I believe we move and have our being in the presence of heavenly messengers and of heavenly beings. We are not separated from them. We begin to realize more and more fully, as we become acquainted with the principles of the gospel, as they have been revealed anew in this dispensation, that we are closely related to our kindred, to our ancestors, to our friends and associates and co-laborers who have preceded us into the spirit world. We cannot forget them; we do not cease to love them; we always hold them in our hearts, in memory, and thus we are associated and united to them by ties we cannot break. . . . [They] can see us better than we can see them— . . . they know us better than we know them. They have advanced; we are advancing; we are growing as they have grown; we are reaching the goal that they have attained unto; and therefore, I claim that we live in their presence, they see us, they are solicitous for our welfare, they love us now more than ever.

    1. Thanks Deborah.
      Thank you for sharing your heart. I feel for your loss and pray the God of all comfort would hold you in His loving arms and be your strength.
      I believe that those who die in faith in Jesus Christ are absent from the body, but present with the Lord. I was reading 1 Corinthians 15 this week about how our bodies are sown as a natural body and will be raised as a spiritual body as different as a plant is from a seed. How encouraging.
      I am not a follower of Joseph Smith (although I am apparently a distant relative –so thanks to all the LDS researchers who worked out my genealogy back to Adam) but have admiration for the high moral standards and desire to please God that my many dear LDS friends and family demonstrate. I choose to stick to the Bible and live by the grace Jesus Christ has given, not through any effort of my own (Eph. 3:23, 24) believing that in Jesus Christ I live and move and have my being. (Acts 17:28) Because Jesus Christ is Lord He is all I need and meets all my needs. Although I know some joyous day I will see my loved ones again, the thought of seeing Him face to face is the greater goal I aim for.
      Phil. 3:7 But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.
      Bless your day, sweet lady, and keep writing those marvelous, beautiful poems of yours. I am a big fan of your poetry. Incredibly beautiful work.
      Love, Charis

      1. My friend ~ Thank you for trusting me with your feelings too. I respect you deeply and have only the desire to love and support you, to encourage and uplift as you do for me. Your faith has deep levels & we hopefully always keep growing & seeking & opening our hearts to the SPIRIT of truth as did Nicodemus. We are followers of the sacred Bible, without it there’d be nothing to testify of His covenants ! Yet, Revalation wasn’t eradicated from earth nor can it be unless we become a faithless people. Bless you dear Charis~your posts never fail strengthened my faith, hope and charity~Ye 1 in a zillion universes!
        ALWAYS your friend ~Deborah
