Every day its streets bustle with activity, but as the sun sets the tinker lays down his tools, the blacksmith’s forge goes cold, Miss Bailey balances her bell and pointer and dunce cap on the stool in the corner. The Northwest Mounted Police recruit drops his British accent and hangs his red serge on the costume rack. The inhabitants of Fort Steele leave via the employees exit to the parking lot and carpool home to the next town, because no one actually inhabits in this one.
Wow, Charis, your writing is magnificent. I’ll be stopping by this blog now and again. Thanks for stopping by mine and leaving those encouraging wise words to a (cheeky, foulmouthed yet sincere) newbie on the path of Christ.
I would be honoured, Mr. Conley, if you stop by now and again.
By the way, you are in good company. Jesus picked a pretty motley crew as friends to accompany him on his road trip. It would be the equivalent of bringing together an accountability-challenged IRS auditor, a gun-totin’ anti-government terrorist, a stubborn evidence-based skeptic, a heavily-accented shrimp boat cap’n from the bayou, an amateur historian/philosopher and a couple of former TV evangelist (currently doing time) groupies for a start. Apparently before they began to understand Jesus’ point about his kingdom not being like others in this world they spent a great deal of time arguing about which one of them would be the greatest when he took power. It would take some powerful demonstrations of love to bring any kind of unity to a group like this. Good thing Christ has lots of love.
Beautiful photos and thank you for the history. When studying the churches in Revelation in college, we were asked which one was ours most like. They all need His Spirit revived and the boxes removed. I join in that prayer! God’s blessings dear traveler.
I join you in that prayer, “Revive us again!”
